April Bomb Cyclone in Evergreen?

In March of 2019, the perfect conditions presented themselves to create “bombogenesis,” or a bomb cyclone that hit the Central United States from the Rockies across all of the Plains into the Upper Mississippi Valley that brought blizzard conditions, severe thunderstorms, and isolated flooding.

• A mid-latitude cyclone, or a “bomb cyclone,” rapidly intensifies over a 24-hour period
• Most of the time, they accelerate and strengthen over the ocean as its central pressure drops at least 24 millibars in 24 hours
• Bombogenesis causes high, intense winds that can cause power outages
  • They can cause blizzard conditions with heavy, blowing snow and white-out conditions
  • Rainfall on snow that can cause river flooding
